Bushwick, Brooklyn — Norte Maar is pleased to present “Welcome to Your New Statement” the complete paper and film collages by Oliver Ralli, the lead singer/guitarist for Bushwick based band PassKontrol. While the exhibition focuses on Ralli’s flyers and other DIY devices he and his bandmates have created to promote the band, the works on exhibit offer a glimpse into Ralli’s deeply rooted love of cross-disciplinary art-making where anything and everything is game.

“Welcome to Your New Statement” opens with a reception for the artist on Friday, June 1, 6-8pm at Norte Maar (83 Wyckoff Avenue, #1B, Brooklyn). Following the opening, Norte Maar invites all to attend a PassKontrol concert/record release/after party at Tandem (236 Troutman Street, Brooklyn) 9pm, $free.

Oliver Ralli lives in Bushwick where he creates music with local band and art collective PassKontrol. Flowing from his involvement with Passkontrol, Oliver’s collages speak with a characteristic emphasis on personal touch, the combination of image and sound, and the creation of new meanings out of appropriated materials. Watch a cool video profile on Ralli by Bushwick Daily here.

“I began making fliers simply to get the word out about our shows.  I enjoy drawing.  My hand surprises me sometimes.  I used to work in the basement stockroom of a wine store.  I would use a Sharpie pen to make weird drawings on wine boxes that would be stacked 6 feet high. […] It was an easy and accessible way to make art.  The same goes for the fliers.  They’re a great way for me to share my work.”

— Oliver Ralli

PassKontrol is a band and art collective based on the border of Brooklyn and Queens.  It is comprised of a group of friends that have embarked upon a creative journey.  They have a ton of fun together and inspire each other.  They make music to transcend everyday life, and to give voice to their thoughts and feelings.  Through their music, art, and shows, they seek to connect with people, create and support community, dance, and have a good time.
