BROOKE MOYSE makes landscapes with the lightest touch of
paint and the slightest hint of horizon.
Her paintings illicit a euphoric, even transcendental state, through a
subtle use of color where subject and non-subject remain unconfirmed. Likened
to Poussin, even Titian, these works echo a classicism of clarity, logic, and order.
"Many of the paintings develop around a specific historical work of art. Recent examples include Nicolas Poussin, John Constables, Giovanni Bellini, Hans Holbein, and Lawrence Weiner. Light and space are represented symbolically as a way of presenting the individual experience that comes out of a search for physical environment, personal meaning, and life."
