ANDREW HURST "Strange Cargo," 2008 mixed media construction 70(h) x 83 1/2(w) x 2(d) inches courtesy of the artist
Hurst's work is entrenched in the process of matter and collage as a means for the artist to feel his way through different emotional landscapes and expressive territories. By utilizing an array of materials accumulated continuously throughout his life, Hurst creates visual and textural eccentricities which are inherent in the many found photographs, films, objects, sounds and other random elements that the artist combines to provoke a dissection of his own perceptual and spiritual condition. These collected elements function as a mirror, examining the internal and external forces that invade and imbue the constantly evolving perception of self and surroundings. |
