AMANDA TRAGER "We talked alot about religion," 2007 acrylic on plaster 48(h) x 77(w) x 10(d) inches courtesy of the artist
Trager's paintings and sculpture are fused with prose—abbreviated first-person narrative presented visually. She develops characters the way a novelist would, with the added element of physical confrontation. One recurring character is an overwrought romantic on a tragic-comic spiritual and emotional quest. Nods in her work to the form and emphatic address of the protest sign or the urban wall sets up an expectation for a political message that is met only obliquely, through a filter of an individual's confusion and despair.
